So keep in mind that nothing ever takes God by surprise. There is no event, no circumstance, no challenge and no change that he does not see coming. It was the same when we first started helping out with the breakfast club and then both Ben and Heather passed away and the next thing we know The Local had gone from serving at the breakfast club, to running it. It took us by surprise but God had already prepared for it. Natasha pointed out that this is the same.
God seems to be positioning us again as a key point of connection and cohesion in the community. We are there to serve the purposes of his kingdom in this community (those two key goals of glorifying God by 1) sharing the full life Jesus promised, and 2) undoing the work of the kingdom of darkness). It's up to him to manage the circumstances we do that work within, and it's up to us to grab the opportunities he provides for it to flourish.
It is sad to see the house go up for sale, but keep in mind that we don't know who may purchase it - we may still have an ongoing relationship with new owners. And the Trust that own the house intend to find new ways to contribute to the community, so there will likely be more things there we can throw our support behind too.
For now though, it would seem God is asking us to step forward a little and operate more visibly in the community under our own banner as The Local. Beginning with Mothers Day last week (check out the facebook photos if you haven't already) and continuing with Maureen's role taking on a new phase as she connects with the community more openly under The Local's banner.
Let's continue to love and serve and feed people as we always have, and continue to stay humble in the process. It isn't about us, it's about representing our Master and pointing the way to him and it's about loving and building friendship with our 'neighbours'.
If it is going to serve God's plans better, let's not be shy about stepping forward a bit more visibly.
Change is challenging and there'll be challenges in front of us I'm sure, but I'm also feeling quite excited by this new season - let's see what God does.
If you haven't got a t-shirt yet, give it some thought. Become a walking sign post.
We had more orders for t-shirts from different community members last night too.
They're becoming living signposts with us - how cool is that!
Bless you heaps team.
